Mammogram is clear. I am so happy right now.

In celebration, here is a secret snippet.

The difference between images and reality was shocking. Like seeing a recording of a sable tiger taken with care under perfect lighting vs turning around in the middle of a hike and finding one staring at you from the brush. Ramona Adler was suddenly very real and very near, and her presence disturbed him to his very core.

He had to say something or do something. He couldn’t just stand there, gawking like an idiot.

Matias took the closest chair and waved his hand. The ten guards positioned along the wall lowered their weapons and walked out. Solei lingered. Ramona looked at the HSO with her disturbing eyes and then looked back at Matias. He felt a sudden urge to mumble something incoherent yet neutral like Hi, how are you, how’s the family, how’s business so she would keep looking at him.

Get a hold of yourself. She’s in your conference room. In your building. This is your house.

He dismissed Solei with a nod. The head security officer withdrew. The door shut behind him.

Matias fixed her with his stare. “To what do I owe the horror?”

“I came to ask two questions.”

Her voice suited her, a rich, smooth contralto.

“Very well. I’m all ears.”

Her mouth curved slightly. “Do you know where your wife is?”

  9. AAAHHHHH!!!!! Is this a new Kinsmen? I bet it’s a new Kinsmen (unless it’s something completely new) – the cover image alone is a big hint! I love the Kinsmen novellas – I reread them every time I need a pick-me-up, and it would be such a treat to have another one.

    oooooohhh. What if we get some kinsmen cameos in a future Innkeeper…. much excitement, very much lots of excitement over here.

    • I also love the Kinsmen novellas and reread them often. I thought I was the only one! I would love more from that world as well.

  57. I had a mammogram just this morning and as usual it feels a little humiliating getting squeezed by a machine. Glad my insurance covers it though many women don’t get covered for reproductive health.

    Second, I don’t know if this snippet is from a current series or a new one, but I know I am so THERE for it, whichever it is!

    Happy Wednesday! I’m on spring break, crafting and listening to audiobooks, so life is pretty good for an average Wednesday in these parts as well!

    I even graded both sets of test papers I brought home with me before starting on my fun (instead of putting off fun AND work and feeling guilty for doing NOTHING as I generally do at the start of spring break). 🙂

  69. I’ve been on the other end of questionable mammograms a couple of times, and have been lucky enough to get the good news. At least one woman I was there with did not get the good news. I’m very very happy for you!!

  73. Yay! So glad your mammogram was clean. They really are lifesavers. I should know – I am now 4 years cancer free after a grueling fight because my mammogram caught my cancer early. And because I had been having yearly mammograms since I was 40, and they were tracking some potential trouble spots. So when one changed, it was quickly caught. I am DELIGHTED that yours came back clear. May it always stay that way!

    The mammogram being clear is like sunrise after a dark and stormy night. Now I don’t have to worry about you and can concentrate on worrying about me again! Let’s hope my scans are clear, too, next week. Am I allowed to gloat because my scans include my entire torso and I don’t have to have mammograms or colonoscopies? I swore off all tests that hurt 25 years ago. One mammogram was enough for my lifetime. Zero colonoscopies suits me just fine. No standard tests would have found my cancer, anyway.

    I’m in Ohio, the daffodils are up everywhere and some are budded. I planted over 600 a few years ago, they multiplied, I have thousands. The crocus are coming and one is budded. My favorite season is ended, here comes the heat, but if I get through that stuff, it’ll be winter again and I can enjoy the great outdoors. Here’s hoping I make it! I have to hang on to read Ruby Fever, don’t I?

  84. I dread the yearly exam and wait for the results. I’m a year away from being the same age my mom was when diagnosed. The only good thing I can say is that the mammograms are read faster and more accurately than they were 25 years ago, but that wait is still never wracking. Congrats on the good news!

  92. I’m glad your mammogram results came with a clear bill of health. I had my second Moderna shot early yesterday morning. I was feeling I had escaped the curse when I went to bed. At ten PM the pain woke me up. I didn’t hurt if I stood up or sat down and neither of those are sleep positions for me. I have severe osteoarthritis and I’m restricted to the sleep positions I can use comfortably. I’m back among the living now but dread going to sleep.

    But more importantly, please, “What is the second question?”

    Whenever I read the name Ramona, I start looking for my Beverly Cleary books. It’s like a reflex for me.

  114. I’m glad you got clear results and I don’t want to scare anyone but I also want to give a warning if they tell you that you have dense breast tissue. I’ve had mammograms for the past 11 years, and every year each was allegedly reviewed by 2 radiologists. 7 years in one top-flight medical system and 4 years in another. About 2/3 of the time I had to have additional views taken.

    And lo and behold, right before Christmas I was diagnosed with breast cancer – with the slowest growth rate anyone had ever seen but with a large enough tumor I had to have a mastectomy instead of a lumpectomy. Apparently the can er had been growing 5-10 years without anyone being able to tell. I still can’t figure out if there was malpractice in there or not but everyone tells me it was very difficult to see on both mammogram and ultrasound. There has been a lot of muttering about “diffuse”.

    I’m trying not to dwell on it because what is the point, but I am still a little angry that I did my job getting the mammograms and they didn’t do their job spotting it.

    I have no idea if I am really a medical rarity or not, but if I had to do it over, once I went 2 years needing additional scans and hearing comments about dense breasts, I would demand an ultrasound, even if I had to pay for it myself.

    I am fortunate that although I needed a mastectomy, the cancer itself is the basically the lowest risk out there. I won’t need chemo although I might need radiation. I’m still waiting on that.

    I hesitated to post anything because I don’t want anyone to worry, but I didn’t know mammograms could fail so spectacularly. 2 different top flight university medical systems with many different radiologists and they all missed it year after year after year.

    In case you want to speak to your doctor, I have plain ordinary her2 negative, ER/PR positive ductal carcinoma with an extremely low mitosis rate and no family history.

    • Oh, and neither I nor my doctors could really feel any lump. I guess the cancer grew out more in a plate than in a lump.

    • I am so sorry. I am very glad you posted. We do need to worry, and your comment might save someone from an early death. Thank you so much for warning everyone and sharing your experience.

    • ((Hugs)) Thank you for sharing! I had my first mammogram last month (early due to family history) and spent time learning about dense tissue after that came back on my report. Getting an ultrasound is a good idea and I’ll ask my doctor about that next time.

      May you have a speedy recovery and good scans for the rest of your life!

  119. Congratulations on your clear mammogram. I’m sure you are relieved to have that off your plate. Hope your weathered the February storm well. We had busted water pipes, shattered well pump and pretty much the same damage to our pool but all is good now. We discovered heat tape to put on the well pipes next year so hopefully a one year thing. Cheers from San Antonio.

  167. I have a downloaded list of IA titles from their “Complete Book List” (currently on the “Release Schedule” page) from a while back. I use it to keep track of the books and their reading order. My old downloaded copy says “Finished for now, might resume” next to the Kinsmen titles, but when I just now went to look at the current version of the list, that notation is gone.     So hard to find good sci fi romance novel. Lots of it mostly alien romance. While fun to read it doesnt have intergalactic space battle and intriguing plots. (I blame my dad for getting me hooked on Star Wars)

    Looking for book recommendations apart from Jessie Mihalik’s book and T.A. White’s firebird chronicle. Read those and re-read them on repeat.
