Appearances and powers
Frida is a blonde, blue eyes woman, while her deceased husband, Leon, was black. It is later revealed that James has Mediterranean and English ancestry. Nevada, Catalina, and Arabella don’t resemble at each other at first glance. However, if you put them side by side, it’s immediately clear they are sisters.
Nevada is the oldest, 25 at the start of BURN FOR ME. She is an athletic woman with naturally tan skin and blonde hair that is described as being the color of clover honey. She is a truthseeker and is able to tell when someone is lying to her. Nevada is driven by the deep sense of responsibility for the survival of her family.
Catalina is younger than Nevada by 8 years. She is slimmer, with darker skin and dark brown hair, and is frequently mistaken for someone of Latin heritage. Catalina’s talent is revealed during the course of Nevada’s trilogy. Catalina is shy and avoids spotlight.
Arabella is shorter than her sisters, only about 5’2″, and has a hour-glass figure. She is the palest of the three; however she tans to a darker color in summer and her hair is corn-silk blonde. Arabella has explosive temper and lives to prove someone wrong. Her powers are also revealed in the course of Nevada’s trilogy.
Bern is big and pale with dark-blond or light brown hair, depending on the time of the year and the amount of sun he gets. He is powerfully built and practices judo. Bern is a pattern mage who recognizes patterns within computer code, and the Baylor family’s resident hacker.
Leon is Bern’s half-brother. He is lean, dark haired, with olive complexion, brown eyes, and inability to sit still. His talent is revealed in the course of the trilogy.
Penelope was once a sniper in the military. She is Magus Sagittarius – she never misses. During her service, she was an athletic woman and looked a lot like Nevada with bronze skin and dark hair. She was critically injured in a POW camp and now has a permanent limp. Because of this, she’s no longer as athletic as she used to be. Her body is softer and rounder, and she is self-conscious about it.
Grandma Frida is tall but lean woman with now platinum curly hair and big blue eyes. She refuses to let her age slow her down.
